10 sleeps to go! Check this review written by one of the fellows that attended our last event….. Curlusicious Talk, Saturday 13th April 12 noon – 2pm So I went along to the Curlusicious Talk to hear what it was all about. I am one of the many men out there who have a great appreciate for women that wear their natural hair, so this event provided an insight into how it is possible to easily manage natural hair. I often hear women say, “I can’t be bothered with doing my hair natural” or “it’s too hard – I’ve given up”. This talk and video presentation dispelled all of that and provided detailed, specific and personalised ways for black women to easily manage their natural hair. Mrs B and Mrs C (the two hosts) talked of their personal hair care journeys, taking us through the downs and now the continued ups. Their passion, insight and understanding of what it takes to make managing natural hair easy and straightforward was clear for all to see. They dispelled myths including that water is bad for your hair (in fact it is good for your hair and key in moisturising and combing/brushing natural hair). They also provided invaluable information including: Sectioning hair when washing it (makes washing, blow drying and moisturising hair easier) Combing through working from tip to root (minimises hair loss from the roots) Always misting (with water) prior to combing or brushing (makes combing/brushing easier, less painful and again reduces hair loss) They also reminded everyone that hair care is not just about length – just as important if not more so is the condition of your hair. Therefore it is very important to know your own hair, and to have natural hair in great condition one must make hair care a habit and normal part of one’s daily life. The host gave excellent practical tips including keeping a hair journal or a photo journal. This will allow you to see your progress and have the sense of achievement you deserve. These tips about making hair care a habit reminded me of my own exercise fitness journey I went on – going from skinny to slim lean muscles with abs, chest and arms. Thanks to the hosts, even I as a guy learnt a few tips to improve my hair care. Guys – please be patient with the women in your lives; correct hair care takes time but your patience will be rewarded. Ladies – please put in the effort with natural hair care; men do appreciate it and you will get out what you put in. In summary I would highly recommend attending a Curlusicious Talk if you are serious about having your hair natural and having it look beautiful and feel amazing as it naturally should.
