10 years ago, Wintersleeper, the first EP was completed. It was recorded in Dec. 2004 & Jan. 2005 and self-released on TQA Records in Dec. 2005. the following text is the press release for the EP - funny how little the concept has changed since. ++ thisquietarmy is the one-man solo project of Eric Quach ( Destroyalldreamers guitarist, producer & co-founder), a vehicle that was initially created as a vault to bank musical ideas, which would include destroyalldreamers’ songwriting, outtakes and/or recycled ideas, before becoming separate & independent entity. Nowadays, his journey throughout thisquietarmy consists of exploring the guitar as the sole tone generator, using a real-time looper with effect pedals to create songs, soundscapes & textures, discovering sounds & melodies, mapping them on a blank canvas, a vast horizon full of aural possibilities. To create ambient music that can be as interesting and as diversified as possible with only one instrument, is one hell of a challenge to accept. Its reward... is a land of freedom. Some ideas on this record were generated from the re-interpretation of self-improvisations, which includes the decomposition and the re-arrangements of certain elements, and the recording context reconstruction. Sometimes improvisation were captured on the moment & kept untouched. Sometimes additional details were added afterwards. Wintersleeper evokes the feelings of self-confinement & self-implosion that are brought by the harsh Nordic winter. An aural journey through the climatic changes caused by global warming : natural disasters vs. tragedies vs. death, mood swings vs. radical shifting weather. Winter already sucks so much energy that we barely have enough to absorb the constant ugliness that happening around the world & fight for the planet’s justice. A desire to be light years away from all of this happening, somewhere in outer space, or somewhere in your sleep... wintersleep until spring.
