10 years ago this week, Canadians were trying to wrap their heads around one of the worst tragedies in living memory. The 2004 boxing day tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean is one of the worst losses of life in a single day in human history. 230,000 people were killed in 14 countries, some as far as 8,000 kilometres from the epicentre of the earthquake that caused it. But no place was hit harder than a small city in Northern Indonesia, Banda Aceh. 16x9s Mike Armstrong covered the tsunami’s aftermath in both Thailand and Indonesia, and earlier this month, ten years later, he returned. Dont miss 16x9s special presentation The Day the Wave Came this Saturday at 7pm.
