Over two million men fought in this battle. Allied Casualties- 263,000. German casualties 256,000. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Semlin (Syrmia) occupied by Serbian forces ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- German light cruiser Emden makes her first capture in the Indian Ocean (Greek collier Pontoporos) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- German and Austrian representatives expelled from Egypt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The cargo ship SS Indus was captured in the Indian Ocean (11°00′N 83°45′E) by SMS Emden ( Kaiserliche Marine) and was scuttled after all her crew had been taken on board.
