100 days. Can you hardly believe that it has been that long since - TopicsExpress

100 days. Can you hardly believe that it has been that long since I walked to Dover? I cant. In reflection of this time, I would like to share some things that I have learned over the last 100 days. Reader beware, I am about to put some people/organizations on blast. Before I do let me preface, if you are reading this and KNOW it is about you, dont get mad that I put it out there. Change yourself because SHAME ON YOU! I have learned that people are amazing and love my son without having to. For that I am thankful. I have also learned that people are disgusting snakes that will stop at nothing to gain for themselves. Example # 1 & 2: We had not one but two individuals/organizations approach us wanting to do a fundraiser for Rykers Fight/MDA. We were thrilled at the idea. Now I know we were naïve as well. On both occasions the money that was donated by all of you amazing people was taken by these people/organizations and never accounted for. Regardless of our pleas for an accounting of the funds it was never presented. Both of these people/organizations then took the money and deposited it into their personal bank accounts so they could send THEIR check to the MDA for the tax deduction. REALLY, my son is your personal tax deduction? You make me want to vomit. Oddly enough, one of the events that took place collected money in a donation jar only. It took me over two months to get the organizer to tell me how much was donated The individual then tells me oh yeah, I forgot and deposited the money in my personal bank account. Give me the tax ID number so I can cut a check and have it for my taxes. REALLY! You sir did not donate a dime. Caring people put money in a jar and you essentially STOLE it when you deposited it. Well I caved and gave the MDA tax ID number in hopes the money would make it to the MDA. Yup 100 days later it still has not. Lesson: In the future ALL money raised for my son/the MDA will come directly to my hands because you will not steal from my son nor use him for your personal tax deduction. Oh and at least if the money comes to me I will have an accounting of how much was raised. Example # 3: We had a local business offer to put out a money jar for my son for the 3 months leading up to my walk. In not one but two of their locations! Sooo great, or so I thought. For those three months I frequented that establishment daily. I saw the money being put into the jar. $20s, $10s, $1s. The jar would be filled and emptied just to be filled again. I was stoked! Again, my walk was 100 days ago. I have sent 4 different messages to the organizer that put the jars out. I have only gotten one response which asked for an address to send the money to. I obliged and gave the MDA address. This was a few months ago and the money still has not been sent SHOCKER. Example #4: We had an organization approach that wanted to partner up and do a support night at a local restaurant with a % of the proceeds going to their organization and a % to Rykers Fight with the MDA. We participated and 100 days later NOTHING. Moral of the story, I have learned to be careful. To be mindful that money is an ugly thing and people make ugly choices when faced with money that does not belong to them (though one of these organizations had the audacity to tell me when I was questioning them that it was not my money or my benefit). Im sorry if I offend people with this post but I am sickened by their actions and I have waited in silence for 100 days to give then the benefit of the doubt. When people play with the money that is donated to Rykers Fight they are essentially playing with my son and so many others lives. That money that you are not turning over or accounting for could be THE dollar that funds the break through. Perhaps I am foolish for thinking that way but when it comes to my sons life I remain forever hopeful. For the next 100 YEARS, I will continue to believe in people, I will continue to participate in fundraisers BUT I will be much more careful with whom I deal with and how things will be handled.
