After deciding that he could run the new railroad better than the former owners, Demens pointed his [newly acquired] steam engines, tracks and ties, toward the West coast of Florida where he believed he could make the Orange Belt [to Tarpon Springs] pay... The Orange Belt [later] became part of the Flagler system in 1899, renamed the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
