100th Birthday at Willow Court On the 30th December we celebrated the Birthday of Marjorie Ditchfield. Marjorie was joined by friends and family from as far as Holland to celebrate her centenary. The day began with a party at her sons house, followed by another party at Willow Court where Marjorie was presented with flowers and a card by Councillor Rosemary Farmer. When asked what makes Marjorie so special, her daughter Gail said the following: Basically the fact that she has reached the age of 100 in relatively good health: she has always had a good sense of humour. The fact that she was widowed twice, once at the early age of 46 when she was the landlady of the White Hart Hotel and again when she was 60 when she had been married only 3 and a half years to my stepfather Ken Ditchfield who was known in St Albans as the manager of the Westminster Bank. The last forty years of her life she spent in Devon and Codicote. She has always enjoyed the company of her family. Her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Either we spent holidays with her in Devon - always on the beach - she adored the sunshine and the sea - or with us in Holland. Marjorie has always been a very family orientated person and today we have celebrated her 100th Birthday at my brother’s house in Harpenden with many family members
