101 years ago today in Calumet MI, 73 people--including 59 children--were killed when panic ensued at the Italian Hall when someone shouted Fire! at the rather packed facility during a Christmas celebration. It has been suspected that thugs hired by the local copper mine management caused the panic; the mine workers were in the middle of a strike at the time for better pay and working conditions. 28 years later, Woody Guthrie wrote and recorded a ballad commemorating this tragedy called 1913 Massacre, and its todays musical selection. Merry Christmas everyone, and lets do remember those who arent as fortunate as ourselves this season as well as those who are fighting for better pay and working conditions. https://youtube/watch?v=oz7oguguIZE
