104 high frequency words (mapped) on one side and the first 90 high frequency sound pics (representations of speech sounds in print using letters or string of letters) as an A4 laminated table top mat. These are the 100 recommended by NSW Education Dept - we just added a few (cant have the word Mum without Dad?) - or once and upon without time :-) But they are still used alongside the 440 Coded Magic Words used within your Duck Level resources. These are ideal for students working through SSP Phase 2 - the Learning to Code with Comprehension phase (learning to read and spell). The high frequency whole words are mapped/ coded for you, and also have a number next to each line for quick teacher/ peer prompts (ie its on line 8) But if using SSP the kids are going through all of the Sound Pics every day - these are not to teach the high frequency words and Sound Pics, just to reinforce, and to develop independence during writing activities. Just have 1 on each table. The other sound pics (there are around 250 in total- 90 commonly used ones learnt within the 4 Code Levels) are found in their Spelling Cloud Keyrings, also coded according to these 4 colours So if they hear sssss they know to look in the Green Cloud as they learnt s as a pic for ssss first, in Green, and the first one they learnt for that speech sound is shown in bold. 46 speech sounds - 42 singles, 4 doubles (eg k/s - x k/w - qu).
