106 South Sudanese refugees arraigned in Kenyan court Published: 09 November 2014 Over one hundred South Sudanese refugees to be arraigned in a Kenyan High Court. The refugees were arrested after deadly clashes between Dinka and Nuer communities living in Kakuma Refugee Camp erupted on October 27th. Kakuma refuge Camp aereal view The situation in Kakuma Refugee Camp, is now calmed according to area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), David Nyabuti. He said 106 refugees of over 400 who were initially arrested were arraigned in high court in Lodwar and charged with incitement of violence. Majority of 106 arrested are from Nuer and Dinka communities. Clashes started on October 27, after an alleged rape case of Nuer girl. When tension was still high in Kakuma, a Burundian motor cyclist accidentally knocked down a Nuer boy sparking even more clashes that led to the death of 8 refugees at the camp. Other sources within Kakuma camp have put the death toll at 22. According to the area OCPD, calmed has been attained in the camp, a peace meeting has been convened this week between South Sudanese communities and the Great Lakes communities. These include, the Burundian, Rwandese and Congolese.
