10th Free Eye Camp conducted by the Johari Medical and Research Foundation (JMRF) August 18, 2013 Jetwan Budhvihar, Tata Colony, Chembur, Mumbai. The Johari Medical & Research Foundation (JMRF) conducted its 10th Free Eye Camp at Jetwan Budhvihar, Prabudh Nagar, Tata Colony, Chembur on 18th August 2013. This was the third free eye camp conducted in 2013. The camp had to be delayed twice due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai. It was organized in collaboration with the Tata Power Group. They took care of the local hospitality and their volunteers coordinated some of the day’s activities. A total of 186 patients were examined and females (102) outnumbered males (84). The patients were from the local slum area. They were checked for common eye problems. In addition, blood tests were conducted to check for diabetes and iron deficiency. Patients were also given spectacles free of cost. 25 patients were identified as suffering from Cataract. However, post 18th August, only 11 of these patients visited Johari Nursing Home for their free Cataract surgery. The surgeries were performed by Dr. Usha Johari in batches over multiple days. 14 patients remained absent probably due to the Ganpati festival in Mumbai. JMRF’s ambulance was used for local transportation of these patients. Tata Power Volunteers accompanied them during the visits for surgery and follow-up. Key Numbers: 1.
