(2) Completely passive reading is impossible; we cannot read with our eyes immobilized and our minds asleep. (3) Hence when we contrast active with passive reading, our purpose is, first, to call attention to the fact that reading can be more or less active, and second, to point out that the more active the reading the better. (4) One reader is better than another in proportion as he is capable of a greater range of activity in reading and exerts more effort. (5) He is better if he demands more of himself and of the text before him. ------------------------------------------------------ 나솔님이 보내주신 9일째 내용 해석입니다. ^^ (1) Active Reading 적극적으로 읽는 것 (2) As we said at the beginning, we will be principally concerned in these pages with the development of skill in reading books; but the rules of reading that, if followed and practiced, develop such skill can be applied also to printed material in general, to any type of reading matter—to newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, articles, tracts, even advertisements. 처음 부분에서 이야기했듯, 이 장에서는 책을 읽는 기술을 개발하는 것에 대해 다룰 겁니다. 하지만 이러한 기술을 따르고 연습한다면, 이러한 기술을 개발하는데 적용되는 규칙들은 다른 인쇄물에도 적용이 됩니다. 읽는 것이 적용되는 종류라면 어떤 거든지요. 책 이외에도 신문이나, 잡지, 팜플렛, 기사, 소책자, 심지어 광고에도 적용이 됩니다. *tract는 @jaeoh lee님이 찾으셨듯 종교, 도덕, 정치적 주제에 대한 글.. 또는 소책자를 의미하는데 한국어로 딱 뭐라고 표현할지 모르겠네요 --a
