ZAMBOANGA CITY --- I will not tolerate contractors to cut cost on the projects because this is people’s money.” Thus, the stern warning Monday, Nov. 4, of Mayor Isabelle Climaco Salazar when she learned that some of the houses being built by contractors chosen by the National Housing Authority (NHA) at the transitory sites in Sta. Catalina and Lustre are made of substandard materials. For this reason, the mayor, who was apparently pissed with the problem, has created a project monitoring team to oversee and check on the ongoing projects. “We are coming up with a project monitoring team and will wait for Sec. Singson to implement it,” the mayor said. No less than NHA Director Engr. Al Indanan confirmed there were three housing units that collapsed located at Block 5 lot 13, 14 and 16. He said the cause of the cave-in was due to a wayward backhoe which accidentally collided with the houses. However, he could not explain how the backhoe bumped the house at lot 13 and continued hitting the houses in lots 14 and 16. Indanan said the contractor will have to rebuild the collapsed houses. “The contractor will have to totally remove and replace the houses.” He also said there were hollow blocks delivered that are substandard and he assured the public that NHA does not condone this kind of anomaly. “Ay investiga kame cunese y checkia kame.
