11/20/13, Dixie Huff, Just a few updates today. None of it really good but it is what it is: 1. Dixie does have pneumonia in her good lung which they are treating. 2. The Plurix or Denver drain that got put in a few weeks ago has been found to be a source of infection. That was a given risk that was known when they put it in. Its coming out ASAP and a bigger new tube is going in. 3. The continuous dialysis is running but no signs of progress yet. 4. The big discovery of the day was that the TIPs (an internal liver bypass) has been found to be blocked. Really strange because it was just open a few weeks ago. Being blocked means that all the fluid is going somewhere and most likely why the lung cavity was filling up so fast. They will be going in again (3rd time since it was put in back in July) to clear it out. Very similar procedure to what they do with heart stints. 5. In order to be able to do the TIPs rework Dixies blood has to be able to coagulate, which as a liver disease patient it is not doing. So, she has to have a blood transfusion with all the risks that come with that whole process! The nurse (sometimes they know it all - Eric Huff, Megan Pinero, Amanda Pettit Brotherton, Jackie Pettit Callahan) said with some luck maybe we would see some improvement or her coming around a little in a few days. Shes just very, very sick right now. My daughter January Sherman is coming down to visit tonight and my brother Ron Huff is coming tomorrow. Enjoyed the visit from Elizabeth Huff.
