11/27/14 Good afternoon everyone! Everyone at Weaver PD hope that you and your family are having a great Thanksgiving. If your family is anything like mine, you will get so stuffed you cant move. In my family, Gravy is considered a beverage. Yikes!! Some of you may be getting ready for the Black Friday event tomorrow. Careful planning is in full motion right about now if youre as serious as Mrs. Lt. about shopping tomorrow. For the record....I will not be anywhere near a store tomorrow. We wanted to pass along a few safety tips for you to consider while youre out on the Black Friday extravaganza: * If you have a credit card with the small microchip on it you may want to wrap a piece of tin foil around the card. There are criminals out there with special scanners that can read your credit card information (if it has the small chip embedded on it) through your purse or wallet and obtain all of your information from the card to make purchases or steal your identity. The cheapest, and simplest way to prevent this is to use a piece of tin foil to make a small sleeve for your card to slide into. There are protective sleeves for credit cards sold at various electronic stores as well. * Do not carry large sums of cash around with you. * Be mindful of pedestrians, especially children. * Keep your wallet / purse with you at all times. Do not set them down in the buggy or lay them down on the counter while your looking at something else. * Put your purchases in the trunk! A bag full of video games or digital cameras makes an enticing target. Clear out that trunk and make as much space as possible before you head out shopping. If you dont have a trunk, take a sheet or blanket with you to cover your purchased items so they are not so enticing to thieves. *make sure you have plenty of gas in the tank. It may take some time to find parking or to get out of the parking lot once you’re done shopping. *Practice Patience…Expect heavy traffic and expect long lines. Remember safety comes first. Obey traffic laws! Drive the speed limit, stop at stop signs and don’t park in handicap spots. Be mindful of pedestrians, especially children. When you get to your destination.....enter the store safely, do not rush!! Always be considerate of other shoppers. Have a good time, and good luck!!! - Pappa Smurf
