11/9 LUNGS UPDATE Procedure to drain left lung is done and Im resting back at home. They go through your back and aspirate (needle) the fluid out. She pulled over a liter (2 lbs) and could have got more but I started to cough and the pain increased. The doctor said they can run into trouble if they keep going increasing chances of collapsed lung, etc. Did it hurt? Of course but the worst of the pain was when the needle entered the lung and that part was over relatively quickly. Brent was a trooper and stayed and watched while they did it. I purposely did not look beforehand to see how long the needle was but Brent kept telling me afterwards he was proud of me so thats probably a pretty good indication of needle length:). I will just rest for today and tomorrow. Little uncomfortable but all in all its not too bad. I WAS a baby and kept crying before they started. I did have a couple of distractions though... the elderly lady in the bed next to me had a crush on one of my techs and that was pretty funny. Also, another tech looked just like Roberts brother in law on Everybody Loves Raymond. I wondered why the nice nurse wanted to hold hands but soon figured it out and during the worst of it I just pictured Braiden and Jaxson smiling at me! Results should be back in 48 hours however it was not a biopsy but more to give me comfort and relief while breathing which is, fortunately 24/7. My breathing had been very shallow for a long time so I am beginning to enjoy feeling normal. Only a small vial of the fluid is tested and if malignant Cancer cells are present then we know. If cancerous cells are not present there it does not mean they were not in the rest of the fluid. Chemo will aid in fluid not building up as much or as rapidly. Now I... wait a little while to hear if Im accepted to MD Anderson. If not, chemo will start here in Decatur. They will not do radiation. Thanks for your continued prayers and support. You make all this so much easier with your care and concern!
