12.06.14 Ethel loved the annual Gerber Picnic which she and Harrold hosted for many years, and she continued after his death. They called it that because Harrolds sister was Gertrude (Johnson) Gerber. Also included was the family of Harrolds deceased sister Mildred, whose daughter was Betty Lou McFarren. So in reality, it was a Johnson Reunion, but they always called it the Gerber Picnic! August 10, 1987 Dear Becky & Dan, We had a great Gerber Picnic AGAIN! Every year I think we can’t have a better one. Sheri had fixed up an album of all the pictures from the years gone by – and everyone was so tickled to see it. We could hardly believe how much everyone has grown. We had pictures of the year you and Dan were here. They played volleyball again – then the younger boys shot baskets – the one that Paul had put up on my garage. Chris and Jan couldn’t be here – they were in Florida. Grandma Priscilla had Drew with them. He is about 2 now – going on 3, I think. They brought his tricycle with them – and he had a great time riding his tricycle. Robyn came – her hubby is a doctor and couldn’t get away. Becky and Todd were a joy. This was his 3rd year to be here. They will be getting married next year in August. Mike and Robyn McFarren came late – but it was so good to have them here. Everyone stayed until about 10:30. Of course I couldn’t do it without Molly and the Reussers helping me. They carried and put everything away. Uncle Victor said it was the best party ever. I’m sure he appreciates it more as the years go by. Other than that it was a quiet week. It has been very hot – we had rain and it cooled off for the picnic. The weather was perfect for that. I did one program last week. It was for a friend at her house so Tish went with me and played with her girls. It was nice. Tish is in Bible school this week. Sheri is helping whenever she can. She is busy with cheer leading and baby sitting. Yesterday I was playing Bridge here – so Tish went home from Bible school with Tom and stayed there until about 2 – then they came here to play. Then – it will be only one full week of play and school with start on the 25th. Your birthday is coming up!!! I’m not very original – I’d love to be able to send you that high chair for your birthday – but I can’t seem to find a way to get it shipped to you – so you’ll have to be content with whatever I send you – and you’ll know my hear is with you! I’m working on the quilt. I have Dan’s block almost done – and it looks great! Love, Grandma
