12/27/14 BOUNTY KILLER (2013). This is yet another graphic novel adaptation that should have stayed a graphic novel. Its about a post-apocalyptic world (again??) where bounty hunters go after corrupt heads of corporations, which isnt a bad idea, but the filmmakers have thrown in attempted tributes to past films (Road Warrior) and genres which have, in many cases, already overstayed their welcome. A female bounty hunter (decked out in white thigh-highs most of the time) goes after these heads and also clashes with her ex-trainer and lover, who seems to have betrayed the cause. Her name is Mary Death; his is The Drifter. The only notable things about this action film, which has lots of traveling across the desert, are the excess of blood, the unimpressive CGI effects, and a momentary (or two) appearance of Gary Busey as a corporate killer. The characters arent uninteresting, but there isnt much new here, and its all been done better before and with a lot less gore. Matthew Marsden stars as the Drifter, and Christian Pitre looks cool (but ridiculous) as Mary Death. Barak Hardley almost steals the show in a mostly comedy relief part.
