12/28 night update: I wrote a book edition, tl;dr at bottom This morning she was cleared by the neurosurgeon. Tomorrow she is off bed rest. Mandatory 3 days for the lacerations on her liver and spleen, so hopefully she can finally get out of bed. She wants to get up and move around, shes sitting up on her own. Her short term memory is still a bit fuzzy, but thats the concussion and morphine talking from the sounds of it. She swears up and down she was wearing her seat belt and her injuries definitely support that, hands down. The notion that she wasnt was information that I passed down from the state troopers investigation into the crash, not hearsay. Ive had two people tell me theres marks that go off the right side of the road before she went off the left, so that explains how the car got sideways. Why she went off the right to begin with is a total mystery still. Theres nothing on her phone, like a saved draft, to say she was texting, so she probably didnt mess with it after she left the driveway, that was her SOP unless someone called, and she hadnt had one since 10p on Thursday night according to the history, before her work called wondering where she was around 11a. I can tell you, just like a number of other people, that it wouldnt be the first time someones had to go into the ditch for some full sized truck that wouldnt share the lane. $150 a pop for a new factory skid plate each time it happens gets old pretty quick. How she got out of the car is still a complete mystery, as well. Shes a tough cookie, for all I know she was trying to get away from the car, or she bumped her seat belt release during the fourth roll and got tossed. She was found pretty close to the car, completely caked in mud. She might have stumbled away and passed out from the head trauma. Who knows, who cares. Shes alive and thats what matters. Ill be going to see whats left of her car tomorrow morning, along with viewing her crash site for the first time myself. If theres make up on the airbag, she was probably wearing her belt. I know this because she had explosive tensioners that tighten the seat belt right before it deploys the air bags, slamming you into the seat and allowing your head and neck to go forward into the bag. If the dash is cracked to the right of it, she wasnt wearing it, and I know where the knot on her head came from. If not, it was the second forward impact with a deflated airbag into the steering wheel. It kills me to think of the thoughts going though her head as she laid there in the cold mud before she passed out, though. When I saw her at the hospital right after it happened, her body temp was 85. Hypothermia was a double edged sword in this case. She was cold enough to where the swelling and bleeding slowed down, but much longer and that would have been it for her. She has a busy morning with her physical therapists and I can use that time to go get a few important things done before I go back up to Toledo. Thank you all for the continued support and prayers. The entire staff up there has been fantastic about any questions we have and are trying to make her as comfortable as possible given the circumstances. Every time I see her she looks better and better, more black and blue, but every minute shes closer to being home. tl;dr shes doing better and expect pics of the car tomorrow, along with updates on how she handles walking for the first time in a few days.
