12:30 In the afternoon on September 11, and save for a few - TopicsExpress

12:30 In the afternoon on September 11, and save for a few thoughtful individuals sharing sentiment or expressing personal loss, Ive hardly heard a word spoken about this tragic day in 2001. I believe this almost entirely to be because I am on a college campus largely separated from the media, mainly TV, because many students I know simply dont have TVs. It was a tragedy which incurred loss and sorrow of nearly immeasurable proportions - that is of no doubt. But in the thirteen years since that day, by the end of every September 11, I feel like the sheer sadness of the event has been shoved down my throat rather than the innocent and the brave remembered. The fact that Ive heard next to nothing regarding the tragedy today concretes a notion in my head that Ive entertained for years: we cling to, commemorate, mourn and revel mostly in what popular media tells us to, and when the media is absent or simply unheard... we essentially get over it. *** I mean this in NO DISRESPECT to the families affected by this tragedy, and I mean to take nothing away from the meaning of this day. Simply a nod to the psyche of the human body I observe.***
