#12 A skirt or a pant? A dress or a suit? Does it really matter, If its a heel or a boot? These articles of clothing are now interchangeable. Its the mindset that appears to be frustratingly stable. A woman has the right to speak From birth until her breathing goes weak. So why does society tape those lips? That want to be heard between the noise and the mist? Indeed we have our women heroes here. Who stood out, spoke out, brandishing no fear. The question, though, I try to ask. Is why did they have to persist and last? Why were they not given the chance back then? When asked their ambitions at the age of ten? Pushed away, locked up, forced into marriages. Why, I ask, did someone burn down their bridges? This poem, as you read, seems to be A whole lot of questions, unanswered maybe. My point is clear, at the age of sixteen I wonder, I think, my mind is keen. I could be just another girl roaming the streets Full of life with a constant heartbeat. Oblivious to dangers lurking far and near. From strangers or those who are near and dear. Its not just society that forms the oppressing crew Its brutally insane, what testosterone can do. And then comes the question of raising a child. Does the chromosome really matter, a X or a Y? Its time, I believe, to set them free. To ask them again, what they want to be. Let the sighs turn to smiles with a wind whirl. As his lips part to say, Congratulations, Its a girl
