12 September So are you might know I’m back in KC. Eva was having a tough day so she asked if I’d come “home” (strange but sometimes we call it that it seems like we’ve been here forever). Eva continues to have great progress but sometimes little things start to combine and then they start dragging her down. She is still coughing and that usually leads to vomiting which is followed by hugs and tears and a lot of back rubbing. She was also having a lot of cramping in her leg, hopefully in the morning we can do a few exercises and she will try to spend more time in the chair/my bed. So the hair loss has started and that’s not fun for her. Jody was brushing her hair and it filled the brush a couple times, I will post a picture. In the morning we are going to cut a lock of hair for her scrap book then she said she will decide if she wants someone to come in and cut it short. With the cancer we know there is a lot of stuff happening inside but really all we can do is rely on what they are telling us, the arm swelling up and getting sores on it is a visual that we can see something is wrong. The hair loss is like that we can see it progressing and then it hits you what’s going on. Eva was a little sad she said “I like my hair I’m going to miss it” she really does have great hair it’s so soft and curly. She likes to do her hair she will spend hours straightening it and do different things to it. We keep assuring her that it will be back but it’s hard. She is also starting to get sores in her mouth which is common with chemo. They are treating her with a drug she has to swish every 6 hours so 4 in the morning we get to do that. She’s been have some bad dreams about the cancer so we asked a Psychologist to come and talk to her, she was very kind and naturally said Eva is so sweet. Jody left the room and they had a good talk, she will stop by a couple times a week. This hospital is the best place we could be for the condition she is in. We are pleased with everything they have done for Eva. They rotate the nurses around so we will have the same one for a couple days in a row but when they come back to work and are assigned to other patients they will bring Eva’s mail just to drop in and say hi but those who know Eva probably aren’t surprised she is very likeable. The patient turnover is pretty high, the room next to us has had probably 4 or 5 different kids in it while we have been here Eva is a longtime resident and so a lot of the nurses have gotten to know her. I’ve had a couple people ask for Eva’s address so I will post it again. Children’s Mercy Hospital, Eva Munk RM 24 4HH, 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108. Well I’m going to close for now I hope you all have a good day. Keep the prayer and good wishes coming our way cause we sure need them. Thanks for all your support and as always STUPID CANCER.
