12 Years a Slave - Movie Review - * * and a quarter stars. This is a good movie, impeccable cast, Ive been down South - impeccable sets and scenery. So what went wrong? There is a total lack of dramatic irony or laughter and tears at the same time, that, unfortunately Steve McQueen doesnt know how to do, while Quentin (in his Django) excels at it. We get plenty of still shots - reflections, so common to European movies, but...the main actor never looks (lets say) at a masters garden that is surrounded by a small iron fence, with one flower stubbornly growing on the outside of the fence (free!). The movie, is too much in our face, it lacks subtlety. It is definitely worth watching at least as a DVD release :)
