12 months ago today McKenzie became unwell with what I thought was just the flu. Little did I know that McKenzie was very unwell and it was the beginning of a terrible heartbreaking ride. 10 months of unknown... nobody knew what the future held for McKenzie. As the weeks went by her condition deteriorated and hospital admissions became our new normal. McKenzie had lost her quality of life, we were unable to do anything, she suffered in pain and was heavily medicated to help control her movements. 3 months ago today exactly, McKenzie had Deep Brain Stimulation which was her best option to save her and give back her quality of life. It was the biggest risk I had ever had to take in my life but we had no choice. We were fighting to give her the best chance. Today was a very special day. McKenzie took part in her end of year concert. She was the most beautiful purple mermaid with the most amazing smile. The sound of laughter that came from her will be a sound I will never forget. I am so proud of her and how hard shes fought this fight. Shes winning and proves it more and more every day.......
