12-year-old Sutilah was born blind in one eye and with vision - TopicsExpress

12-year-old Sutilah was born blind in one eye and with vision limited to 12cm (5 inches) in the other. Because of financial constraints, Sutilahs family had no hope of affording the simple operation to correct her sight. Sutilah was forced to live with this condition, unable to go to school or have hope for a productive future. Six months ago, Sutilahs auntie heard about the work of the The John Fawcett Foundation and finally there was hope. Sutilah was examined and deemed eligible for cataract surgery in both eyes. The surgery would be fee for Sutilahs family because of funds raised by Kate, a lovely 14 year old from Australia who had heard about Sutilahs condition and wanted to help. I met Sutilah right before her surgery and was amazed how well she could manage with such limited sight and how excited she was at the thought that she might one day be able to see properly. She was brave throughout the whole process of exams and finally surgery, saying that when she finally had sight, the first thing she wanted to see was butterflies. I promised her that I would take her to the butterfly park as soon as she recovered. Soon after the opeation, I was able to keep my promise and took Sutilah to the butterfly park with Kate who had come up from Australia to meet her. Sutilahs vision was getting better everyday and she was now able to see clearly more than 4 meters (13 feet) The John Fawcett Foundation has corrected and restored the sight of over 40,000 people throughout Indonesia. The foundation relies on donations to be able to continue their incredible work, bringing sight to many who never believed they would have it. With monies raised by 14-year-old Kate from Australia, Sutilah was able to get the precious gift of sight. It is hard to imagine any gift more precious or easily given. Sutilah now is able to go to school and is thrilled to be able to learn to read and write and follow her dreams. Please donate and help others like Sutilah to enjoy the precious gift of sight. balieye.org/support.htm Gaby Wehn Music by Samuel J.
