12 years a slave, another good film that showed the uncompromising brutality and desperation of the southern slave system. This is the true story of Solomon Northup who later with his book became a voice in the abolition movement. Brad Pitt as always gave a good account of himself in a small roll as did the in bloody everything at the moment Benedict Cumberbatch! This film had a slight apologist feel which is understandable as it is American but it would have been a good self explanatory story if it was kept emotive
