12 years ago we shared a national tragedy. In those dark and uncertain days following we saw the best and worst of humanity. I have never been more proud to be an American, seeing how we as a nation, a city, a neighborhood, joined together to rise stronger from those ashes than we were. My Husband, Bruce Marshall and I have been honored to be part of a retreat for survivors of 9/11 for the past 11 years at camp Kieve in Maine. We met so many amazing people, including members of the FDNY and their families. After the 10th anniversary we were inspired to write a song for all first responders, from the perspective of a firefighter. We chose Engine 54 because their house shared such great loss.
