120 competitors started the annual two day Lympstone to Poole race - TopicsExpress

120 competitors started the annual two day Lympstone to Poole race this morning. Each team has two pairs of runners who run for 22 miles each day carrying a daysack. The race takes place between Commando Training Centre Royal Marines near Exmouth and Royal Marines Poole in Dorset. The competition was originally conceived to settle an argument between the Physical Training Instructors at CTCRM and Poole. It is now opened up to all RM and 3 Commando Brigade units who compete for the Neil Blaine Trophy. Corporal Blaine was killed in an parachuting accident in the USA in 1994. He was a keen competitor in the Lympstone to Poole race during his career.
