120 posts of Principals, 60 ZEOs vacant in Kashmir Mir Iqbal Srinagar, Jan 15: Around 120 posts of Principals, 60 Zonal Education Officers and nine Chief Education Officers are lying vacant from last two years in Kashmir and Government has failed to fulfill them, Jammu and Kashmir 10+2 Fraternity of Teachers said here. “The administration department of School Education has gone into hibernation. The School Education Department was facing worst ever crunch in terms of shortfall of officers occupying key positions in the basic structure of the department”, the Forum said. The statement said that short fall has led to mismanagement in administrative affairs. “Jammu and Kashmir Government was making all the right noises about upgrading the infrastructure and manpower in educations sector. But all that is punctured when one gets to know the fact that key posts responsible for overseeing the functioning of the Education Department were lying vacant for years”, he added. They alleged that the absence was hampering the proper delivery of education. “To keep the critics off, the Education Department found a way by giving some of its officers’ additional duties,” they alleged. They said that the understaffing in the Education Department has posed a serious threat to quality education and the future of students was at stake due to non-seriousness of the Government.
