Even though the weight of the bench press is and probably will never be the indicator to how strong a person physically is, yet there are reasons why people would always cough out those words whenever or possibly wherever a gym rat see another. Here are the reasons: 1. Since ancient times, lifting the bar off your chest displays masculinity. (I made it up) 2. Dwayne Johnson popped the cherry with his chest. (A film I have never watched) 3. A few men (not all) over cautiousness towards the size of his anterior muscles like the biceps and the chest. But never the quads. 4. Since the reign of powerlifting, many people focuses on the stronger lifts like the deadlifts or the back squats. Yet it never sound right to say, how much do you dead or how much do you squat? It sounds way too technical. 5. It is either you press it up or it mounts on you. which is right at the center of your chest. Other lifts can at most break your spine, but a failed bench could kill you. 6. Because it is simple, yet technical. Conclusion, all the PR set are crucial in psychological preparing yourself for the lift, good technique and a good spotter less u fail. I believe I wasnt psyched enough because of the environment overpowering my mind. My technique was off as I wasnt focusing during my warm up sets. And my spotter doesnt know how to follow instructions. (My mistake from getting one without even knowing who he was)
