128 years ago the RNLI suffered it largest single loss of life when 27 lifeboatmen from St Annes and Southport perished in high seas trying to rescue the crew of the stricken barque the Mexico. We should always be grateful for those who put themselves in peril to help save lives in what ever service or capacity.
