13 / Aug / 2013: Chapa-dara of Kunar surrounded by Taliban: Representatives of the eastern province of Kunar at the National Assembly (Wolesi Jerga) have said their Chapa-dara district has been surrounded by the Taliban for the last three days. A female lawmaker, Wazhma Safai, said clashes in this district have left civilian causalities. Despite serious threats of the Taliban in this district, Safai said the central government has been unable so far to deploy additional troops into the area. The Kunar police chief confirmed that causalities had occurred to civilians, but refused to comment about the exact death toll or number of casualties. The interior ministry, however, would not confirm that Chapa-dara is under Taliban control, saying the group is unable to do so. MoI spokesman said Afghan and Pakistani Taliban, coming across the border, were trying to disrupt the security of the southern and eastern parts of the country. Sideeq Siddequi added the security forces were completely able to fight face to face against the Taliban and the insurgent group was unable to resist against the security forces.
