13 COOL ANOMALIES IN SCIENCE: (Super interesting topics) 1) The Placebo Effect - the mind can affect the bodys biochemistry. 2) The Horizon Problem- The two edges of our universe are nearly 28 billion light years apart and our universe is only 14 billion years old. 3) Ultra-energetic cosmic rays - physicists can see them, but they have no source. 4) Belfast homeopathy results - The study, replicated in four different labs, found that homeopathic solutions - so dilute that they probably didnt contain a single histamine molecule - worked just like histamine. 5) Dark matter - TAKE our best understanding of gravity, apply it to the way galaxies spin, and youll quickly see the problem: the galaxies should be falling apart, but they dont. Is there something holding it together? Astronomical observations suggest that dark matter must make up about 90 per cent of the mass in the universe, yet we are astonishingly ignorant what that 90 per cent is. 6) Vikings methane- On MARs, Viking reports a positive result of Methane in the soil. Something is ingesting the nutrients, metabolising them, and then belching out gas laced with carbon-14 7)Tetraneutrons - These are four neutrons that are bound together in a way that defies the laws of physics. 8) The Pioneer anomaly - Pioneer 10and 11 were launched in the 70s and had a course plotted based on universal laws. However, something is causing them to accelerate 400,000 kilometers off course. 9) Dark Energy. In 1998, astronomers discovered that the universe is expanding at faster speeds, when up until then the theory was that it was slowing down after the Big Bang. One suggestion is that empty space is responsible called DarkEnergy. 10) The Kuiper cliff - At the edge of the solar system, theres a region devoid of normal icy rocks and the density of space rocks drops off so steeply as if a planet or something massive orbits there. Considered possibly planet X. There are probes going out, launched in 2006, that will reach this area in 2015 and give astronomers a better idea and view of whats going on here. 11) The Wow signal - IT WAS 37 seconds long and came from outer space in 1977. Coming from the direction of Sagittarius, the pulse of radiation was confined to a narrow range of radio frequencies around 1420 megahertz. To this day no one knows what caused it. 12) Not-so-constant constants - (Has to do with light interacting with matter coming from distant quasars, acting in strange ways.) 13) Cold fusion - Placing a voltage across the electrodes supposedly allows deuterium nuclei to move into palladiums molecular lattice, enabling them to overcome their natural repulsion and fuse together, releasing a blast of energy. The experimental cases prove it is possible and bulletproof by many scientists in the world, but it shouldnt be possible and only should be able to happen inside of stars. 14) RH- Blood - Blood that doesnt have any correlation with simian ancestors or anything else in nature. Disproving the theory of evolution in a way that no scientist can dispute.
