13 September 1971 - A one-person plane Kukułka (Cuckoo) was built. Its designer was Eugeniusz Pieniążek who was persecuted in the country for political reasons. The plane had been built since 1969, initially in an apartment in a block of flats, then in an aero club hangar. Elements that were too large to fit in the stairwell were let down on ropes from the first floor window. The flight control surfaces and modified wings from the Foka glider were used in the construction. It was the first amateur aircraft to be registered in the Polish People’s Republic, registered on 10 August 1971 under the number SP-PHN. On 29 July 1972, after fleeing to the West, the aircraft was removed from the Polish registry. In 1992, the aircraft was registered in Sweden under SE-XKK. Since 1997, the aircraft has been back in Poland under the number SP-FKU. On 13 September 2005, the constructor donated the plane to the Polish Aviation Museum in Cracow. Pieniążek, piloting Kukułka, crossed the border illegally and through Slovakia and Hungary arrived in Subotica, Yugoslavia. On the subject of his escape the film Trzeba w życiu coś zrobić (You have to do something in life) was made, directed by Piotr Załuski and Tomasz Piotrowski.
