130706 SUPER SHOW 5 in Singapore wraps up with a twist ending Compilation: 130706 슈퍼주니어 “World Tour, SUPER SHOW 5” Singapore There were naked bods, plenty of hip thrusts, cross-dressing shenanigans, and cheeky bantering – as expected of any other SUPER SHOW concert previously staged in Singapore and around the world. But what made this year’s SUPER SHOW 5 in Singapore a little different and unforgettable – on top of the somber speech Eunhyuk gave at the end of the concert – were its member line-up and the boys’ heart-warming display of rapport. First up, it’s member line-up. Think of it as a game of musical chairs: with Kangin’s return, it is now leader Leeteuk and Yesung’s turn to be missing in action from this year’s concert due to their recent military enlistment, as Heechul continues to serve the nation. Fans at the Singapore Indoor Stadium were clearly more than delighted to see Kangin back in action with his band of brothers. The 28-year-old even did his self-introduction to boisterous cheers last night when he cried out “It’s been some time isn’t it?” To fill the temporary void left by the trio in the army, Eunhyuk took the lead in introducing the band for most parts of the night, and other members (Siwon, Shindong, Donghae, Ryeowook, Sungmin, Kangin and Kyuhyun) chipped in by being their usual chatty and playful selves. From their hilarious cross-dressing attempts-gone-wrong to their reappearance as a dream team of superheroes (that outrivals that of The Avengers, true story) - there was not a dull moment with these Korean idols. They kept fans on their feet by fleshing out their goofy sides to incite more laughs and cheers, such as ever-so charismatic Siwon’s failed attempt at passing off as Son Dambi in his ‘Saturday Night’ segment last night. The three-hour long show went on as per normal with top-notch fan service and plenty of synchronised dance sets and pre-recorded videos. While those were enjoyable, what really stood out this year though was the group’s camaraderie and great rapport – in light of missing members and the *recent controversy involving Super Junior-M members Henry and Zhoumi. Throughout the concert, the boys constantly cheered for their Super Junior-M subgroup members, and involved them in as much performances as possible. They even egged Henry on and got him to perform a shortened rendition of ‘Trap’ from his first solo mini album before they wrapped up the concert with a final song. In a surprise turn of events, Eunhyuk reappeared on stage five minutes after the concert ended, shocking fans that were already streaming out of the stadium. Addressing the crowd on the hullaballoo over the Super Junior-M debacle, although he clarified that they “are not official Super Junior members”, he added that they are “official members of Super Junior-M” and two “family members” the entire group holds near and dear to their hearts. “We have a close friendship with them, and support them like they are family members,” he said. “Doing Super Shows with them and watching them wait for hours in the waiting room after performing only three to four songs during their solo stages made us sad. We know that they want to stand on stage with us and to interact and meet fans, instead of feeling lonely.” Ending the night on a particularly poignant note, he sincerely apologised and sought for fans’ understanding. “Singapore ELF, sorry to talk about this here,” said Eunhyuk as he gave one last final bow before walking off the stage. xinmsn is proud to be the official online media for SUPER SHOW 5. *For those not in the know, an online petition was recently started by a fan, demanding for SM Entertainment to draw the lines between Super Junior and its Mando-Pop sub-group, Super Junior-M.
