130802 Loving others is God’s Command: “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other..Rom 12:10(NLT)” These are Commandments from our Creator. They are also very difficult Commandments to apply, because some people are hard to be affectionate towards. And before we start casting stones at people who come to mind, keep in mind that we ourselves are sometimes hard to be affectionate towards. When it comes to loving others it is a very easy thing to do when someone is lovable and loving towards you. But what about that person who is always attacking you? It seems like they wake up every single day with new and exciting ways to make your life miserable. Then throw in the mix that it is someone close to you. It might be a close friend, co-worker, Boss, or worse, a spouse, child or Parent. That is when it becomes very, very difficult because we would not expect that type of behavior from them and they would not expect that type of behavior from us. But let’s stay in the real world; this happens! Being affectionate and honoring towards others is a “God-Thing.” What I mean by that is it is not a natural trait we possess. Our natural tendency is to be selfish and self-centered. “I” want to be loved. “I” want to be honored. Loving and honoring others is a tremendous act of humility. Jesus undeniably set the example of this by coming as a man and dying a criminals death on the Cross. He loved and honored us by giving His own life as the penalty for our sin. He gave all of Himself as a sign of God’s infinite love. Are we doing that? Are we getting up and asking for the strength through Christ to accomplish that self sacrifice each day? If Jesus did this for us and this is the example He said to follow, what is our excuse? “You don’t understand God. This person is a jerk!” And we’re perfect, right? Not on our best day! Though this is not a natural act, we can do it in and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Start with a fresh attitude today and make it a point to reach out and love that person that you find difficult to love. God will equip and bless you for your faithfulness! “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically..Rom 12:11(NLT)” Chaplain Doni Col 3:17
