13th January 1992: Ivor McNabney, 30-year-old Protestant civilian, a haulier was fatally injured when a brick was smashed through the windscreen of his car as he drove along the Westlink Road in Belfast. The brick smashed through the windscreen 36 hours earlier and happened around 3:30AM on 11th January. The brick was thrown from a bridge at North Queen Street and struck Mr McNabney in the head. Mr McNabney was returning home from a church charity social function and could not have known he was driving into a mob. Five Catholic youths and men from North Belfast aged between 19 and 24 were all jailed for periods between 3-1/2 to 4 years in connection with the death of Mr McNabney. Their intention was to stop and hijack a vehicle so they could set it on fire. All of the men expressed remorse for the Mr McNabneys killing with 1 man described it as being a nightmare. Mr McNabneys father described his son as the perfect son who was a tireless worker for Christian charities. The sentences bore no comparison to the crime that was committed. British justice is supposed to be based on the bible. These sentences have no resemblance to the words of the bible. The judge will have to stand before God and justify these sentences. The Rev. Ian Paisley said: ...Mr McNabney was a fine Christian young man whom I knew well, and who worked for my party at election times. I am seeking an urgent meeting with the attorney general to seek a review of the sentences imposed. LEST WE FORGET!
