#14- Shake Hands With the Devil- The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda- Lieutenant General Romeo DAllaire. I decided to read this book again this month, the twentieth anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda. It is not an easy book to read. The absolute disregard of the world community about the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of helpless people in Rwanda is traumatizing. So why read it? Because these people mattered. Because we as a world community have a responsibility to ensure that the people of other nations do not have to suffer as the Rwandans did. Because twenty years later, this story stands as a reminder of what can happen when the world turns its back. When we say never forget on Remembrance Day, we should remember this as well.
