14)-thanking and.nic.in SIOji NICpb -ipdvn -ds&dt----thanking .Todays Date : 26/01/2015 LG greets Islanders on Republic Day Reaffirms Administration’s commitment for all-round development of Islands Port Blair, Jan 25 The Lt Governor, Lt General A.K.Singh (Retd.), PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM has assured the islanders of his constant efforts and commitment towards the welfare of the people of the islands. Greeting the Islanders on the eve of 66th Republic Day, telecast by Doordarshan and broadcast by AIR this evening, the Lt. Governor expressed his gratitude towards the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi for his guidance and support for the development of the islands. The Lt Governor expressed happiness that he could meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister who have assured all support for the development of the Islands. “In all our activities the Government of India has a major role to play and I am sure that our Islands will achieve our objectives of development with their guidance and support”, the Lt Governor said, adding that we shall face all the challenges and overcome them for achieving our goals. The Lt Governor also highlighted the notable achievements made by the Administration, in different sectors during the last one year. “The Andaman Nicobar Medical College will be a game changer in the islands’ development as with the opening of this college, about 100 new specialists and super specialist doctors will join the Islands who will also see patients, while about 70 students from our islands will get admission in the Medical College which is way above the 13 seats that they used to get in mainland colleges earlier”, he said. The Lt Governor also informed about the upcoming scheme under which the needy people of these islands will get financial assistance. He thanked the Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray for his encouragement and support for the launch of the scheme. The Lt Governor also spoke about the Andaman College, a new college that came up in the islands after 20 years, which became functional during July 2014. “A permanent campus for this college, will come up at Chakkargaon soon”, he said expressing his happiness over the achievement of the Education Department which notified 422 vacant posts of teachers and appointed 250 teachers last year, while the rest will be filled up soon. Describing the big leap that the Administration took in the Aviation sector when it started a weekly flight to Car Nicobar during July 2014, and the Chartered flight service in the Chennai sector from Jan 2015, the Lt Governor said that the Administration is making efforts to start similar flights in Kolkata and Vizag sectors while plans are in the pipeline for international flights to South East Asia. The Lt Governor also spoke about the new runway extension project at Campbell Bay, besides the new airport terminal at Port Blair. Turning to the Sports Sector, the Lt Governor mentioned about the reconstitution of the State Sports Council and also lauded Ms Deborah for winning 4 Gold medals in the Track Asia cup Cycling Championship held in New Delhi recently. Remembering the unfortunate boat tragedy that occurred in the islands last year, the Lt Governor mentioned about the safety audits in all the shipping vessels, including private tourist boat and also the process of streamlining registrations under Inland Vessel Act. “The Administration has drawn up elaborate plans for construction of jetties and improving the serviceability of ships, besides the long term project under which the islanders can make journeys in lesser time and spend less money on them,” he said. On Tribal Welfare, he mentioned about the National Conference that was held in the islands on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. A draft policy for the PVTGs has been made which is to be approved by the Government of India, he said. The Lt Governor thanked the islanders for their whole hearted participation in the programmes launched by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, viz, ‘Swatch Bharat Campaign’, ‘Adarsh Sansad Gram Yojana’, Digital India, etc. The sanitation drives and awareness generation programmes were held in the Islands recently. Strengthening the waste disposal system and scientific solid waste management practices, in accordance with the isles’ ecology is also under focus, said the Lt Governor. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in the islands with great enthusiasm, said the Lt Governor adding that the target of 100% coverage will be achieved soon in the islands. He thanked the Member of Parliament for his constant efforts in this direction. The Lt Governor also mentioned about the responsive Citizen’s Charter that was launched in the islands on Jan 1, 2015 and expressed hope that this will help in providing a responsive administration to the people. He also mentioned about the e-Forms services made available to the general public by the Administration. The Lt Governor also spoke about the conscious decision of the Administration regarding the positive role the islands’ will play and become a ‘spring board’ for the country’s ‘Look East- Act East’ policy from the earlier ‘outpost’, the Lt Governor said and mentioned about the possibilities of having a direct flight between Port Blair & Phuket in the near future. The Lt Governor also mentioned that the Administration has constituted a study group which will create a road map for showcasing the islands as an attractive destination. Referring to the Tourism sector, the Lt Governor stated that there has been a 15 % increase in tourist inflow to these islands, which has been possible under a planned strategy, for which the media campaign had a significant role to play. He also mentioned about the sound and light show launched at Ross Islands and the Marina Park Param Veer Chakra Memorial, that are attracting tourists. Expressing concern about the growing urban population of the islands, the Lt Governor spoke about the Administration’s decision to come up with integrated Housing Complexes with all modern amenities for the islanders, with the first one coming up at Tylerabad. The Lt Governor also highlighted the achievements and future projects of the Fisheries Department. Three new fish landing centers are under construction while 10 more will be constructed in the islands in the near future, he said adding that the Administration is also planning to construct 2 modern fish markets in Port Blair. Voicing his concern about the high rate of suicide in the islands, the Lt Governor appealed to all the civil society, NGOs and the media to join hands with the Administration in mitigating this issue. Speaking about the problems of voice and internet connectivity in the islands, the Lt Governor stated that Administration is making all efforts that all the villages get 2G mobile coverage, while increasing the intra island OFC network and increasing satellite bandwidth upto 1GBPS by May 2015. The Lt Governor also spoke about the projects of 2 dams in the islands which will improve our water resources. While the Kamsharat Dam at Bambooflat will become functional this year, the construction of Khudirampur Dam at Diglipur will also be taken up soon; he said, adding that the necessary formalities for the construction of 2 new bridges at Middle Strait and Humphrey Strait have been completed. The Lt Governor also called upon one and all to help the police and security personnel in foiling any anti- National activities in the Islands. The Administration will take stern action against the defaulters and is committed to maintain law and order under all situations, said the Lt Governor. The Lt Governor has also called upon the youth of the islands to work for the all round developments of the islands and expressed confidence that they are capable of facing any challenge and overcoming them. The Lt. Governor also thanked the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray for his support and encouragement, the Chairpersons, members of PRIs, PBMC, Tribal Council and Political Parties for their support. He also lauded the efforts of A&N Command, Coast Guard and A&N Police for ensuring safety & security of the islanders. The Lt. Governor also thanked the media for its support. Pradeshik samachar’s time increased Port Blair, Jan 25 The duration of the evening news bulletin ‘Pradeshik Samachar’ of the Regional News Unit (RNU), All India Radio, Port Blair will be increased from the present five minutes to ten minutes from 26th January 2015 onwards. The RNU is presently airing news bulletins in the evenings for five minutes from 19.00 hrs. The new timing of the evening news bulletin will be from 18.50 hrs to 19.00 hrs. As a result, the popular weekly News Reel programme called ‘Samachar Tarangini’ would be broadcast from 18.30 hrs to 18.45 hrs on Saturdays in place of the existing timing of 18.45 hrs to 19.00 hrs. Similarly, the RNU of All India Radio is introducing the Newspaper Headlines in its Pradeshik Samachar morning news bulletins for about 90 seconds. This change also comes into effect from the Republic Day onwards. This is expected to enhance the appeal of the news bulletins, as more news and information could be accommodated, a communication received here said. Rolling trophy for cleanliness by IWC Port Blair, Jan 25 The rolling trophy launched by Inner-Wheel Club on the theme of ‘Swachhta hi Jeevan hai’ for the best cleanliness maintained schools will be announced on Feb 5, 2015. The members of club will visit the different schools in and around Port Blair from Jan 27 onwards. The first edition of the trophy was awarded in the month of October to GSSS Bhatubasti and was handed over by the Lt. Governor in a function at Raj Niwas, a communication said. All set for Republic Day Celebration in Isles Lt. Governor to unfurl National Tricolor at historic Netaji Stadium today Port Blair, Jan 25 The Republic Day will be celebrated in a befitting manner in these islands too together with the rest of the country tomorrow (Jan 26).The main function for the Republic Day function will be held at historic Netaji Stadium wherein the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. AK Singh (Retd), will unfurl the National tricolor. As per the program chalked out for the Republic Day celebrations, the Lt. Governor will unfurl the National tricolor at 0835 hrs, distribute medals, gallantry awards & commendation certificates and thereafter address the Islanders. March past by defence forces, police, NCC contingents, school boys & girls followed by tableaux presentation and cultural programme by school children will be the other highlights of the Republic Day function which will conclude with the national anthem. Before arriving at the Netaji Stadium for the main function, the Lt. Governor will visit National Memorial Cellular Jail and place wreath at the ‘Martyr’s Column’ there. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Republic Day, a twenty one gun salute will be fired from Ross Island at 1200 hrs on Jan 26, 2015. DDK regrets technical snag Port Blair, Jan 25 The Lt Governor’s message on the eve of Republic Day, scheduled for telecast over DDK at 1930 hours on Jan 25 was interrupted due to technical problem. The snag was rectified and the transmission resumed smoothly. The Deputy Director (E) Doordarshan Kendra Port Blair in a communication has regretted the inconvenience caused to the public. Two fire service personnel of A&N Police awarded President’s Fire Service Medal Port Blair, Jan 25 Two fire service personnel of Andaman & Nicobar Police Fire Service viz. Shri Arvind Rai, Inspector, Fire Brigade and Shri Kumar Paul, Head Constable (Leading Fireman)/132 have been awarded President’s Fire Service Medal on the occasion of Republic Day 2015. Shri Arvind Rai joined the A & N Police Fire Service as a Constable in the year 1976 and was subsequently promoted upto the rank of Inspector. He has been awarded with President’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service in the year 2003. He was instrumental in establishing a new Fire Station at Kamorta. Presently, he is posted at Rangat. Shri Arvind Rai along with his staff rescued 73 trapped residents from water logged areas during the Cyclone “Phailin”. Shri Arvind Rai has been awarded as many as 21 rewards during his service. Similarly, Shri Kumar Paul, joined as Constable (Fireman) in A & N Police Fire Service on 18/09/1984 and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Head Constable (Leading Fireman) in the year 20/06/1989. During his service, he has been posted at Fire Stations Aberdeen, Billiground, Hut Bay, Car Nicobar and Katchal. He is presently posted at Fire Station Hut Bay. His contribution to the A&N Police Fire Service while posted at various Fire Stations as Fireman and Leading Fireman is remarkable as he has attended to the fire calls in the most professional manner and minimized the losses. He has rendered more than 25 years of service in the rank of Head Constable (Leading Fireman), a communication from SP (HQ) said. Four Police Officers get President’s Police Medal Port Blair, Jan 25 Four Police Officers of A&N Police namely Shri M.K. Shukla, Dy. Supdt. of Police, Shri. B.N.Dubey, Inspector, Shri R.N. Mishra, Sub-Inspector and Shri Samaresh Chandra Hore, Inspector (Tech.), Police Radio have been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day 2015. Shri MK Shukla was appointed as Sub-Inspr. in A&N Police on 09/04/1987. During his service, he has held several important assignments and was promoted to the post of Inspector in the year 2003 and in the year 2011 he was promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ad-hoc). By dint of hard work and sincerity, the officer has made a mark at all places of his posting. On January 2012, he has joined as Dy. Supdt. of Police in the Police Headquarters and his contribution proved to be instrumental since he has made all out efforts to clear the long pending ACP/MACPs cases of more than 300 police personnel of all ranks, updating of all service records of entire police force. Inspector B.N.Dubey is presently posted as in charge of Vigilance Cell (PHQ). He initially joined in A&N Police as a Constable on 31/01/1981, after successfully completion of basic training at Police Training School Police Line Port Blair, he was posted at PHQ Estt-Branch for over 12 years and dealt with service books and folios of Police Personnel and other service related matters. Presently, he is posted at PHQ as an in charge of Vigilance Cell from 28/10/2013. As in-charge vigilance Cell he conducted enquiries and also monitored the activities of Police Personnel and submited report about their conduct. For his high order of discipline, dedication and devotion towards Govt. duties, he has been awarded 38 Commendation Certificate’s along with cash reward worth Rs. 4485/- during his career. He was also awarded Police Special Duty Medal during the year 2010. Sub Inspector R.N.Mishra, was appointed as a Constable in A&N Police on 08.03.1981, In the year 1984, he was promoted to the rank of LHC and then HC in the year 1986. On 20.05.2001, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector and posted to PS Campbellbay & investigated various heinous and IPC cases. On 18.01.2007 he was promoted to the rank of Sub Inspector and posted as SHO Kadamtala. During his posting at Kadamtala he has registered several Forest Act, PAT, NDPS cases and apprehended many poachers. For his high order of discipline, dedication and devotion towards Govt. duties he has been awarded with LG Commendation Certificate, Police Special duty Medal and 73 Commendation Certificates from A&N Police with cash reward of Rs.15,448/-. Shri. S.C Hore, who was appointed as A.S.I Radio Technician in Police Radio Organisation on 15/05/1982 and posted at Radio Workshop Headquarter, Port Blair. During the year 2005 he was promoted to the post of Supervisor Technical (S.I) and posted as Incharge (EPABX) functioning at SP(D) office. Further, he was promoted to the rank of Inspector (Technical) in the month of February 2011 and immediately posted as Incharge Technical Wing of PR Unit. Subhash Mela begins at Havelock Port Blair, Jan 25 The 44th Subhash Mela began at the ground of Govt. Middle School, Krishna Nagar, Havelock yesterday.
