14-15 STEM FEMS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM SPRINGS INTO ANOTHER YEAR Yesterday was the first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fems meeting for fifth and sixth graders at both Evans City Middle School (ECMS) and Haine Middle School (HMS). Last night’s activity had the group making polymer (bouncing) balls and completing a few experiments using what they created. The girls had to hypothesize, define a constant and make the polymer balls. STEM Fems is an after school club for fifth and sixth grade girls that provides authentic hands-on, minds-on activities that are geared toward students interests in the STEM fields. A similar program is also available for girls in grades 7-8. The groups will meet simultaneously throughout the school year and conduct different experiments and activities at each meeting.
