14/8/2014. Jay Shri Krishna We have two words prevalent here: Rama Leela and Raas Leela. Ramm Leela is your discovery, where as Raas Leela is coined by Krishna Himself. You have named the drama played on the life of Rama as a Rama Leela. As per my interpretation, the word Rama Leela denotes a truth as a lie and the word Raas Leela denotes to uncover the truth as a truth. It carries very deep meaning. I have reasons for my belief. Rama is Maryaada Purshottam. He has lived a characteristic life. Nowhere in His life He has allowed Himself even to go near the untruth. His entire life is nothing but whole truth. So the drama related to His life can’t be termed as a Leela. Leela means not as it looks, it means the real fact is obscure from what seems on the outskirts. Leela means not so serious about the events. Rama was very serious about His image and long lasting repercussions of His every single small act. So life story of Lord Rama can’t be labelled as Rama Leela. Where as Krishna’s very style of functioning is casual. He never plans the life. He lives the life every moment to moment. How He reacted to a situation at this moment, is not a guarantee that He will react same way the next moment if same situation arises again. Basically He doesn’t consider Himself as a doer. He is totally egoless. He doesn’t believe in personality. He believes in Existence. He never cares what people think of Him if he acted in this or that way. He followed the inner voice every time He had to act. He has never reacted to the situation or an event, He just responded. He only allowed Himself to act in a particular way whenever the nature wanted Him to act that way. Krishna defeated Jarasangh for 17 times. Jarasangh, the King of Magadh, was father-in-law of Kansa. He was the Mightiest king of that time. There was no other King who can think of having enmity with Jarasangh. He defeated and captured 99 kings of Aaryavart. He wanted to perform the Narbalimedh Yagya and give homage of 100 kings in it. He had 23 Axauni Army. Krishna defeated that Jarasangh for 17 times. But when Kaalyavan invades, Krishna flees the battle field and runs away followed by Kaalyavan. When Kaalayavan, a Mallechha King knew that Krishna has become a centre of power, he invades Mathura. Krishna strategically retreats and runs away and conceals His army in Dwarika after building the castle around it. Krishna all alone goes to Kaalayavan to avoid massacre. Kaalayavan seeing Krishna alone and without an arm, rushes to kill Him. Krishna runs away chased by Kaalayavan. Krishna enters in a cave where Muchukand was sleeping. Muchukand was Commander of Chief of Indra, till Kartikswami took charge. Then he wanted to rest, so he asked for a blessing from Devas that whosoever disturbs his sleep, shall turn into ashes. Devas obliged and gave him that blessing. So he was sleeping in the cave. Krishna enters the cave and lays His Pitaamber on sleeping Muchukand. At that time Kaalayavan enters the cave, and anticipating that Krishna has hided, he kicks Muchukand. Muchukand’s sleep gets disturbed and he looks on Kaalyavan and Kaalyavan turns into ashes. So we come to know His wit, diplomacy, killing edge and strategic skills in all these Leela. He can defeat Jarasangh for seventeen times but can run away from Kaalyavan. Same Krishna was given an undefeatable Sudarshan Chakra. Krishna Killed Shishupal with that Chakra. Krishna can carry Sudarshan Chakra and same Krishna can perform as a bonesetter for Trivakra (Kubjja) and can straighten her from three curves also. Krishna is one who can decline the invitation from Duryodhan but can eat rice brought by Sudaama. It is our misinterpretation that we think Krishna did this and that. Actually Krishna was totally egoless; he was not a personality but an existence. He is never seen doing anything as he had fancied doing. He only did those things which nature wanted Him to do. In the true sense of word, He was desireless and fearless entity. I think that was the reason that once He left Maa Radhaji and went to Mathura, He never returned to Vrindavan to see Radhaji. Though He would had desired to see Radhaji, but He never gave place to His desires, so Radhaji had to remain without Krishna, for which women have not pardoned Him even today. In true sense and in the every sense of the word, whatever He did on this earth during His life span was mere Leela and nothing serious. So Raas Leela is very suitable word for Krishna whereas Rama Leela does not suit the life story of Rama. May God bless you.
