14 August 2013 - 07 Shawwal 1434 H MAKKAH – A 55-year-old post office building in Gaza Street, the oldest government building in Makkah and a well-known landmark, will be demolished soon to make way for the largest metro station as part of the expansion project for the Grand Mosque. The post office building consists of eight floors and covers an area of 2,500 sq. meters. This is the last building to be torn down as part of the expansion project for the Grand Mosque, according to Abbas Qatan, Makkah Mayoralty’s assistant deputy mayor for development projects. Qatan is also supervisor of the project to develop the Grand Mosque’s northern courtyards. Work is being expedited to complete the implementation of three metro stations around the Grand Mosque, Qatan said. One will be behind the King Abdulaziz endowment building in the Al-Mesfalah neighborhood, another at the post office building and the third in the Jarwal neighborhood. Meanwhile, Prince Mansour Bin Miteb, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, recently issued a decision to acquire 489 buildings where the fourth ring road project will be implemented. The buildings are located by the Al-Madinah Highway, the road linking Abdul Qadir Koshak and Al-Iskan streets in the Al-Shawqiya neighborhood, part of the Jeddah-Madinah Highway and part of Al-Sail Road leading to Taif. saudigazette.sa/index...20130814176755
