14 July 2014 - Latest update from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reports that the Chikungunya outbreak exceeds 355,000 cases in Caribbean. Nearly 28,000 of the new cases were reported from the Dominican Republic. Other areas that contributed to last weeks increase are Guadeloupe with 11,600 new cases and Martinique with 8,550 cases. After Haiti and Dominican Republic, the disease is now spreading to Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Central and South America (Guyana, Suriname, Costa Rica, Honduras, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and French Guiana). Even in USA, the number of imported Chikungunya cases has already climbed to 138 (cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2014/07/us-imported-chikungunya-cases-climb-138).
