14 / Sep / 2013 Residents of Warduch District of Badakhshan Province ask Afghan security forces to be more careful about civilian casualties:- Warduch local residents have claimed that Afghan security forces during a recent operation targeted residential houses and caused the deaths of several civilians. The deputy of development of Warduch district, Eidi Mohammad, said, “We have urgently demanded of the Afghan security forces that they should avoid killing civilians during their operations.” Badakhshan Governor Shah Waliullah Adeeb said, “The ASF has rejected the claim that their forces had killed civilians. They said that those who claim civilian casualties may be sympathetic to insurgent forces or other armed gunmen.” Speaking on the issue, the Afghan Border Police commander in North of Afghanistan Mohammad Zaman Mamozai said , “The joint operation of Afghan security forces including air support began two weeks ago. During the operation the big highway of Ishkashim which connects Afghanistan to Tajikistan and China was cleared out of armed gunmen. We were able to open the highway after two years.” He added, right now 50 villages have been cleared out of armed gunmen and about 90% of Warduch district is being controlled by Afghan Security forces. General Mamozai said, “During the joint operation more than 80 rebels were killed and injured.” So far three operations have been launched, but after the operations were completed and ASF left the area, armed gunmen re positioned themselves back into those areas.
