#14 The Sonics Shot Down (1966) No witches. No psychos. Not a song about boss cars, drinking poison, or the devil. Just another song about being rejected by the object of your desire. In my opinion, its The Sonics best original song. Just one of a long line of classic songs. Ive always viewed The Sonics/Gerry Roslies prolific body of work as comparable to The Ramones. They only released three albums over the course of two years. Where most bands might have had two or three hits or certifiable classics per album, they only had two or three fillers on their records (and I would argue that their first is damn near perfect). Then you have the various covers they did to perfection. Ill take their version of Money over the Beatles or Rolling Stones versions any day. Their secret weapon? The pounding the late Bob Bennett delivers. Lock onto to the bass drum and tell me Im crazy. SIDE NOTE: Last night I saw The Hormones cover Hes Waiting and The Vibrators did Have Love, Will Travel. Boom!
