14 YEARS ago today I had this procedure done (In utero-surgery for SB repair for AJ). Dr Tulipan did the part on AJs back ...but the Dr. who did my part is no longer w/ Vanderbilt. I was barely 21 yrs old, pregnant with our 1st - and terrified as all get out! This is by far the worse pain I have ever experienced in my life HOWEVER I dont regret a moment of it b/c of the surgery we truly believe hes doing so well physically. We were the 101th procedure to ever been done at the time *July 14, 2000* & I was 24 weeks pregnant at the time. Spent 7 weeks on bed rest & LONG story short AJ was born at 31 wks 3 days on August 31, 2000 weighing all of 4 lbs 1 oz. He spent 19 days in the hospital & his only real issues were maintaining his body temp & remembering to breath when he drank his bottle. Such a scary time in our new lives as being parents & boy have we been through so much since this journey began 14 yrs ago. So thankful this procedure was around & we were candidates for it.
