14 hours later....just got back from my visit/ceremony to Mistassini at Lake Diefenbaker....I feel like I went someplace very far away....nevertheless, it was an awesome day....today, 4 sets of highly experienced divers went 65 to 70 feet of murky water....and, finally located Mistassini....exactly where the Saskatchewan Government dynamited this sacred rock and blew it up 49 years ago...it has remained untouched.....seemingly lost in the minds of the general public....but, never in the heart and souls of Indigenous Peoples....WHY WAS THIS SACRED ROCK BLOWN UP you ask?...Well, personally...and please allow me to be blunt and to cut to the quick.....it was due to that R word and the never-ending Government Agenda of Assimilation, Cultural Genocide ad nauseum.....simple as that! Today, I brought home the first piece of Mistassini that was located.....the first piece to be touched again by our people since that fateful day.......I find it ironic, to say the least, that, it was my late father Wilfred who organized and coordinated the last ceremonial at and for Mistassini...he took dancers from the Battle River People and they danced and they sang there.....5 decades later, I still have in my possession some of the things Dad wore on that day as can be seen in the above photograph where he is standing in front of Mistassini...the beadwork, the headdress, the beaded buckle, the hand drum......there`s a lot of healing, of mending tattered and frayed relationships between Indigenous Peoples and the new-comers to this land....but, before that can begin, our truth as to what happened here has to be told and not swept under the colonial rug....because it`s getting kind of lumpy around these-here-parts! ; )...ekosi pitama - that is all for now.............for now!
