140318 What does your speech do to and for others?: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one..Col 4:6” One of the quickest ways to start a war is with our speech. Our words are so powerful. When used in a way that coincides with scripture, our words are encouraging and edifying. When we use them in a manner contrary to scripture, as in anger or frustration, our words will provoke anger and even violence. The key here is to remember that no one is like you. No one thinks like you. No one acts, reacts or responds like you. James said it best: “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (Jam 1:19-20). Each of us is uniquely made. That was God’s intention from the beginning. So if we get frustrated or even angry with a person for not doing or saying something the way we would have, it really is foolishness on our part and a sign of great pride and arrogance. And if or when we do act this way, we need to go to that person immediately in repentance and ask for forgiveness. We need to pray daily about the way we speak to people. We need to ask God to help us season our words so that they will be encouraging and edifying. This can even be done when we have to correct and rebuke someone. Many times we allow our words to become a side-by-side, double barrel shotgun that we take pleasure in blasting someone with. May our Savior forgive this ungodly attitude. If we don’t keep our attitude and pride in check, this will happen on a regular basis. No one will ever think, act or speak like you. Therefore, don’t treat or speak to someone rudely when they act or speak in a manner different than what you would like. Treat and speak to them in the same manner you would want them to treat and speak to you. Words are powerful or deadly. It’s all in how we use them. “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger..Prov 15:1” Be a blessing, Chaplain Doni Col 3:17🙏
