#145: Reunion: Where were you yesterday? Pradeep asked accusingly. I was hoping that I would slip-in quietly but that was not to be. I answered sheepishly I couldnt avoid it , got caught in some official stuff. You missed something, the teachers just loved the event he said emphatically. Amaresh was around and looked amused, he quipped head-boyishly Dont miss the 2038 re-union event. Being early at an after-event party has its perils and I got some serious roasting for not making it to the 25 Year reunion for the Apeejay batch of 88. I operate in a flash-back mode when I meet my school friends. Nandita still reminds me of the missing Akbar house yellow badge, which I always seemed to miss while rushing to school. Amit Arora was always that genius kid who seemed to know every thing and I guess Ruchi is still hunting for that guy who made physics compulsory at school. You could make out that the party was getting warmed-up since most of the boys were hanging around the bar debating between a straight sharp whisky or a loungy - spicy cocktail. Ruchi by now had hit the floor and knowing her, I knew it will difficult to get her to stop dancing. Some banter had already started rolling, with some folks cracking up friends with their stories. I figured that now after a year of getting together and three raucous parties, the 1988 gang gets off the mark pretty quickly. Across the floor Jigyassu was waving his hands at the DJ egging for some 70s/ 80s stuff and after some negotiations and I guess plain hindi-speak the music got better. Still the floor had an empty look and only the high-enthu crowd was dancing. It took Jitterbug - Jitterbug...Wake me up, that mother of all flouncy-80s pop song, which I could never figure why I liked, to get everyone shaking. From thereon we were a bunch of teenagers in our Apeejay blues-greys and our mud smudged white sports shoes. The screaming-singing-shouting just wouldnt stop. Tanmoy must have taken atleast three re-takes for every picture as photo-bombing was the order of the day. As for me, I struggle to describe my feelings in a word or a phrase. The hugs were warmer and longer. The laughter was infectious. And I couldnt stop smiling. I just knew that I was happy being there. Ravinder Big thanks to Sunita/ Mamta/ Gurri/Nandita/ Amaresh/ Manish / Manish Gulati/ Vikaas/ Paala/ Deepti/ Jugnu/ Ira/ Sonia/ KD & Perdy. You guys made this so special.
