Katanning attributed to the rise, with the yarding up 47%, to 5,000 head, while throughput at Muchea fell 5%, to 3,500 head, as harvest activity has taken precedence in the supply region. Despite two major processors not operating at Katanning, prices across all lamb categories improved, driven by the lower numbers at Muchea. The WA restocker lamb indicator gained 27¢, to 547¢/kg cwt, with producers seeking suitable lines to put onto stubble paddocks. Merino lambs lifted 6¢, to 474¢/kg cwt, while light lambs increased 23¢, to 522¢/kg cwt. Limited numbers of trade and heavy weight lines were available, which saw the WA trade lamb indicator improve 49¢, to 529¢/kg cwt, while heavy lambs were 27¢ higher, on 496¢/kg cwt. WA mutton supply increased 15% week-on-week, to total 15,424 head – 14% higher than the corresponding week last year. Supply at Muchea decreased 26%, to 4,270 head, while yardings at Katanning rose 47%, to 11,154 head. The WA mutton indicator lifted 7¢, to settle on 293¢/kg cwt, with live export activity very strong at both markets this week, especially for suitable wethers.
